Publication series at Wolters Kluwer Publishing House, published with professional asistance of the Institute

Wolters Kluwer Publishing Company is one of the leading publishers of legal and tax-related publications in Europe. Its best-known printed publications in Hungary are the ‘KJK kommentárok’ (‘KJK Commentaries’, item-by-item detailed explanations of the rules governing the different areas of law), which have a long a history. Among its newer publications, the media studies series edited by András Koltay and Levente Nyakas is a unique and exceptional undertaking in Europe and has a distinguished place.

To remedy the serious deficiencies in the market for Hungarian media studies publications and to satisfy the mainly professional and higher education demands regarding classic works, as well as general introductory volumes and detailed analyses, the Publishing Company and the Institute for Media Studies started this book and journal publishing project in 2012 with the primary aim of creating a high quality product line in the field of media law and media studies. The books to be published are selected and edited by the associates of the Institute for Media Studies, while the Publishing Company provides the comprehensive publishing services and distribution.

One part of the specialist books published so far within the framework of this cooperation comprises works translated into Hungarian, thereby making the key works of foreign (mainly English and American) literature available to interested Hungarian readers. In addition to these books, the series offer widespread publicity for the comparative analysis of Hungarian and international media regulations and also for the latest results of Hungarian media history research. The publications, published in English and also distributed on the international market, represent the third pillar of this book-publishing project. Among these one can find commentaries in English on the Hungarian media regulations alongside media regulation-related essays by Hungarian and foreign researchers and scholars.

The Publishing Company aims to promote a diverse and lively Hungarian and international discourse on freedom of the press, freedom of speech and media regulations by publishing the series in Hungary and the international market, not only as hard copy but also in e-pub and mobile formats.

In addition to the book series (which, it is hoped, will be extended in the future to works written in other foreign languages as well), the journal titled In Medias Res is published within the framework of this cooperation once every six months as well. The journal, according to its editorial creed, aims to operate as an open and unbiased forum, offering publicity for the professional media studies discourse in line with the most exacting academic criteria.
